Cwmni Egino has appointed Thomas Hurford to join its senior leadership team as Head of Project Development.
On secondment from multinational consultancy Mace, Tom will lead the programme of development work required to enable a decision to invest in the construction of a new nuclear power station at Trawsfynydd by the end of the decade.
Tom is an Engineering Project Manager with experience across Client, Professional Consultancy and Main Contractor in the development, consenting and construction of Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects, across the Nuclear New Build, Gas and Electricity Transmission sectors.
Having started his career as a graduate with Horizon Nuclear Power, working on developing and preparing the site for new nuclear, he then spent 5 years in the Electricity Transmission sector working across projects in South West England and London.
Most recently as Lead EPC Project Manager for Mace he was responsible for overseeing the multi-million pound reinforcements required to the National Grid to facilitate an Offshore Wind connection into the North Wales network.
Tom, who’s originally from and still living on Ynys Môn, said:
“I’m incredibly pleased and privileged to confirm my Secondment as Head of Project Development for Cwmni Egino. Not only is it great to return to the nuclear industry, I’m really glad to be working on such an important project on home ground here in North Wales.
“Trawsfynydd, and the NDA-owned land surrounding the existing Magnox site, affords a fantastic opportunity to realise the UK’s low carbon energy ambitions, whilst most importantly working alongside the local community and existing workforce to bring about significant social and economic benefits.
“I’ll certainly reflect on my time spent on new nuclear developments in the past, whilst equally introducing lessons gained developing and constructing projects outside of the sector to contribute to the overall vision of Cwmni Egino.”
Chief Executive, Alan Raymant, said: “Tom brings with him a wealth of experience of major infrastructure projects, as well as a thorough understanding of the area.
“Tom joins at a very exciting time for new nuclear development, and the socio-econmic opportunity for North Wales is huge. It’s a pleasure to welcome him to the team, and I look forward to working with him to further progress our proposals for Trawsfynydd and the wider region.”
